Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Sunday that flood-affected households will receive Rs 6,000 each, as well as increased compensation for different headings, only days after Cyclone Michaung destroyed Chennai and surrounding districts. The Tamil Nadu government raised the compensation for the families of those who perished from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh on Saturday and offered a one-time payment of Rs 6,000 to households whose livelihoods were harmed by the rains and following floods. The administration has come under fire for its handling of relief efforts in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung.
Beneficiaries will receive cash financial assistance at their respective ration stores. The number of people or families in Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chennai who would get monetary incentives. The list of recipients is being debated at the highest levels, and detailed program information will be included in the Government Order (GO) that will be issued in a day or two.

Some of the key features and benefits of the Tamil Nadu Cyclone Michaung Assistance Scheme are as follows:
- Stalin would unveil the proposal by disbursing relief monies in cash at Velachery, a flood-affected neighborhood of middle-class and retired government employees.
- Cash distribution of the relief amount will be done through local fair-pricing centers.
- Beneficiaries are getting tokens for cash distribution of the relief amount at specified ration stores.
- The relief funds are accessible to all Chennai ration card holders as well as the inhabitants of the three impacted districts.

- The Chief Minister has directed the disbursement of Rs 6,000 in relief payments to persons who have lost their means of subsistence as a result of Cyclone Michaung.
- Families of flood victims would receive ex-gratia payments of Rs 5 lakh.
- The amount of assistance given to people who have lost their huts would be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000.
- The compensation payout per hectare for crops damaged by more than 33% will increase to Rs. 17,000 from Rs. 13,500.
- Tree and perennial crop payments would rise from Rs 18,000 to Rs 22,500.
- Completely damaged catamarans would now earn Rs 50,000 in compensation, up from Rs 32,000, and partially damaged boats will receive Rs 15,000 in compensation, up from Rs 10,000.
- The reward for mechanized boats would increase from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh.
