Currently, the plan offers a Rs 10 lakh insurance cover in the event of accidental death/permanent disability for an insurance premium of Rs 275 and Rs 375 for two and three years, respectively.

The amended plan has also made it mandatory for many professions that come under employment categories under Section 2(o) of the Emigration Act of 1983, regardless of passport category. PBBY, 2017 also offers worldwide insurance coverage regardless of employment or location, as well as online renewal and a streamlined process for accidental death/permanent disability certification. Insurance:-

The scheme provides emigrants with five different types of coverage. Personal accident, transport and medical, job contingency, and lastly legal fees.

Eligibility:-

Indians seeking emigration permission and intending to work outside the country must apply for this scheme. This plan is open to any employment type covered by the Emigration Act of 1983.

Validity:-

This scheme provides coverage for a period of two to three years. The emigrant worker can then renew his or her coverage. It is renewable until the employee’s service tenure expires.

Online registration for the insurance:-

The scheme has an online application form. This application form will be available at any insurance company that is part of the plan. The form must be filled out and submitted electronically, together with the required papers.

PBBY Benefits

  • The insured person shall be covered for an amount of ₹10 lakh in the case of accidental death or permanent disability leading to loss of job while working overseas, regardless of the insured person’s change of employer or location.
  • Insurance companies will accept certification of accidental death or permanent disability issued by Indian missions and posts overseas.
  • Medical insurance coverage for injuries, sickness, ailments, and diseases is offered up to ₹1,00,000/- (50,000 per hospitalization).
  • Coverage for repatriation in the event of medical incapacity or early termination of employment: Actual one-way economy class plane cost to the nearest international airport in India.
  • In India, family hospitalization is covered for up to 50,000/- for the spouse and first two children under the age of 21.
  • Maternity costs benefits for female emigrants are available up to 50,000/-.
  • Reimbursement of one attendant’s return economy class plane fare to the nearest international airport in the event of the emigrant’s unexpected death or permanent incapacity.
  • Legal expenditures for litigation relating to an emigrant’s foreign work are allowable up to $45,000/-.
  • Provision for online renewal of PBBY insurance.

Eligibility

  • The candidate must be an Overseas Indian (emigration clearance).
  • The applicant’s age must be between 18 and 65 years old (the maximum entrance age is subject to emigration clearance).

Required Documents

  • In case of accident death:-
    • Post Mortem Report.
    • Police Report confirming accidental death.
    • Certificate/Report from concerned Indian Embassy.
    • Duly attested copy of passport (all pages).
  • Fully Permanent Disability:-
    • Medical records pertaining to treatment following the accident.
    • Disability certificate issued by the competent medical authority.
      • In the event of permanent complete disability, depending on the nature of the claim, the Company may request documentation such as:–
        • Original insurance certificate/policy.
        • Application form for compensation duly filled in all respects and signed by the claimant.
        • Copy of passport (all pages) duly attested, if death occurs outside India.

PBBY Online Application Process

Before you begin your application, you must have all of your travel-related papers, such as your passport, visa, and work permit number, on hand.
