Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Scholarship: The Aam Admi Bima Yojana Scholarship for Andhra Pradesh is a social security scheme that was launched by the Department of Financial Services on 2nd October 2007. This scheme is launched for rural landless families and provides a group insurance cover to individuals belonging to specified groups.
The scheme provides insurance coverage against natural and accidental deaths and disablements. On 1st January, the Aam Admi Bima Yojana scheme was merged with the Janashree Bima Yojana Scheme to provide a wider scope of coverage to eligible individuals.
Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants for the Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Scholarship (AABY) must be between 18 and 59 years of age.
- The applicant should belong to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family.
- The member should be the head of the family and there should be only one earning person in the family.
- Applicants should belong to a landless family.
- Students of classes 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th can apply for the scheme.
- Rs. 100 is given per month to students under the Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Scholarship.
- The amount is given half-yearly i.e. on 1st July and 1st January everywhere to eligible candidates.
- Slightly above the poverty line families who are part of any vocational group mentioned in the scheme. 48 vocational groups are identified under the scheme and the members belonging to those groups can be covered.

Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Scholarship Features
- The scheme covers the members of 48 groups that have been identified for coverage.
- The coverage amount is fixed and the amount depends on the contingency suffered.
- The lump-sum amount of coverage is paid in case of a claim.
- The scheme is implemented through a nodal agency.
- (Nodal Agency can be a Central Ministry Department / State / Union Territory of India / Any other Institutional Management / registered NGO that has been appointed to implement the scheme.)
- The scheme can be bought through the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) which is the only insurance company that is offering the scheme presently.
What is covered under the Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana
- Natural death
- Accidental death
- Accidental permanent partial disability wherein the insured loses one limb or sight of one eye
- Accidental permanent total disability wherein the insured loses both limbs or sight of both eyes or one limb and sight of one eye.
- Besides these inbuilt coverage benefits, a free additional coverage benefit is also provided which is called Scholarship Benefit, and is available for up to two children of the insured member.
- The children should be studying in Classes 9th to 12th.

What is not covered under the AAB Yojana Scholarship
- Self-inflicted injuries or attempted suicide
- Insanity or mental disorders
- Pregnancy or childbirth
- War or related perils
- Chemical, radioactive, or biological weapons
- Participating in dangerous and adventurous sports
- Criminal acts or activities which breach the law
- Medical expenses that are incurred due to an accident are not covered.
AAB Yojana Scholarship Premium
- The Aam Admi Bima Yojana scheme has very low premiums. The premium is Rs 200.
- 50% of the premium would be subsidized and paid from the Social Security Fund of the Government.
- If the individual belongs to a rural landless household, the remaining 50% of the premium would be paid by the State Government or Union Territory.
- If the individual is any of the recognized vocational groups, the remaining 50% of the premium would be paid by the nodal agency or the member himself/herself or the State Government or Union Territory.

Claim Process for Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana
For natural or accidental death-
- When the insured dies during the coverage tenure, the nominee should make a death claim on LIC.
- The death claim form would be filled by the Nominee and the form along with the death certificate of the insured to the designated personnel of the Nodal Agency.
- The designated officer of the agency would, then, check and verify the claim form.
- The form would then be submitted with the death certificate and a certificate stating the eligibility of the insured.
- The documents required for a death claim are:
- A filled-in claim form
- An original death certificate and an attested copy of the death certificate
- In case of accidental death, the following additional documents would also have to be submitted:
- Copy of FIR filed with the local police
- Post mortem report
- Police inquest report
- Final report of the police
- Once the documents are verified, the death claim will be paid.
Disability –
- The insured can claim disability by submitting all the necessary documents-
- Documentary proof of the accident
- Medical certificate issued by a Government Civil Surgeon or qualified Government Orthopaedic. The certificate would certify that the insured suffered permanent total or partial disability.
- Once the documents are verified, the claim will be paid to the insured member.
Scholarship Benefit
- The insured whose child qualifies for Scholarship Benefit should fill in an application form for the benefit.
- The form is required to be filled half-yearly and then it should be submitted to the Nodal Agency.
- Then Nodal Agency would identify the students eligible to receive Scholarship Benefits.
- After identifying the students, the Nodal Agency would submit the list of identified students to the Pension & Group Scheme unit of LIC.
- The list should contain the following details of the students identified:
- Name
- Name of the school that the student attends
- Class
- Name of the insured member
- Policy number of the master policy
- Membership number of the insured member
- NEFT details for paying the benefit directly to the bank account of the member
- Once LIC gets the student list with the complete details, the scholarship amount is credited to the bank account of the insured member through NEFT.
- The payments are made on a half-yearly basis every year on 1st January and 1st July.
Aam Aadmi Bima Yojna Online Apply Process
- Firstly, Visit the home page of the National Scholarship portal. Direct Link – Official Website
- Read the guidelines carefully, select the undertaking, and ‘Continue’.
- Select the state of domicile, scholarship category (Aam Aadmi Bima Yojna for Andhra Pradesh), scheme type (scholarship scheme), and gender, and write the applicant’s name, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID.
- Provide the bank details like Bank name, IFSC Code, and Account Number.
- Select Aadhaar or Bank Account Number as identification detail and click on the ‘Register’ button.
- The mobile number will be verified and an OTP will be generated.
- Now, log in using OTP and fill out the form.
- An application ID and password will be generated.
- Use that for future reference.
