On February 15, 2024, the Tripura government introduced a universal health insurance policy. The inauguration of CM-JAY, an initiative that provides a healing touch to people in need of government assistance, is unquestionably a watershed moment for the state. This scheme would give Rs 5 lakh insurance coverage to 4.15 lakh people in the northeastern state. The Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana (CM-JAY) would give Rs 5 lakh in health insurance coverage per family to 4.15 lakh people, including government workers not covered under PM-JAY. When a medical emergency strikes, individuals are powerless. Many people who are not covered by PM-JAY seek the government for aid with their exorbitant medical expenditures. This has prompted the government to explore developing an alternate strategy for people in need of medical care. So, with all of these issues in mind, the Tripura government introduced the Jan Arogya Yojana. Every family who enrolls in the project will receive Rs 5 lakh in health insurance every year.

Tripura CM Jan Arogya Yojana Objectives

The initiative is designed to give free medicine to the patient’s family for 15 days after discharge from either a public or private hospital, with a cashless transaction throughout. Similar to the PM-JAY, there may be some initial issues in administering the universal health insurance scheme, but these will be overcome to ensure that the intended recipients receive the benefits. We promised in the previous year’s budget statement to give health insurance to the general people, and the government followed through.
