National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal

National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal is an initiative taken by the government of India. Cyber Crime Reporting Portal was launched by the Home Minister Of India Mr. Amit Shah on January 10, 2020. The main objective of this portal is to facilitate online crime. Through this portal, residents or victims can file complaints to report cybercrime complaints online. The complaints reported are disposed of by law enforcement agencies/police based on the information available in the complaints.

The portal investigates reports of sexually graphic material such as child pornography (CP), child sexual abuse material, hacking, ransomware, financial scams, cryptocurrency crimes, social media, and mobile crimes, etc.

Objective Of The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal

The objectives of the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal are:

  • To provide an online portal, where residents can file cybercrime reports.
  • People can file a complaint from anywhere at any time.
  • To provide a secure e-platform to the residents.
  • To reduce online crime like online harassment, bullying, and fraudsters, etc.

How To Report Cyber Crime Related To Women/ Child?

  • First of all, you have to visit the official website of the Cybercrime portal.
  • On the homepage, you have to report women/child-related crimes then from the drop-down list you have to click on one option:
    1. REPORT ANONYMOUSLY: if you want to report anonymously ( without disclosing your identity) then choose this option.
    2. REPORT & TRACK
  • After selecting one option, a new page will open on your screen, and click on file a complaint.
  • Now fill in the complaint form:
    1. Select the category of complaint
    2. Approximate date & time of Incident/receiving/viewing of content
    3. Reason for delay in reporting:
    4. State/UTs
    5. District
    6. Police station
    7. Where did the incident occur, etc
  • After completing the complaint form, click on save&next.
  • At last, by clicking on submit you will successfully file a complaint.

How To Report A Cyber Crime?

  • First of all, you have to visit the official website of the Cybercrime portal.
  • On the home page, you have to click on report cybercrime.
  • Now a new page will open, you have to click on file a complaint and then click on I accept.
  • Now a complaint form will open on your screen.

  • Now, you have to select the state, enter your login id, and the mobile number.
  • Now you have to click on the Get OTP button
  • An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, enter the OTP and click on submit.
  • Once you are successfully logged in, report cybercrime, and you will receive an acknowledgment number and save it for future use.

How To Track Your Complaint?

  • Now you have to enter the acknowledgment number and click on get otp.
  • An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, enter the OTP and click on submit.
  • Now your complaint status will be displayed on your screen.

State/UT Wise Nodal Officer or Grievance Officer

  • First of all, you have to visit the official website of the Cybercrime portal.
  • On the home page, you have to click on contact us.
  • Now you will be redirected to a new page.
  • Now the State/UT-wise Nodal and Grievance Officer list will be displayed on your screen.
  • You can get the officer’s name, number email of your respective state from the list.
