On 19 January 2019, The government of Karnataka launched the Surya raitha scheme for the farmers of the state. Under this scheme, solar-powered pumps will be provided to the farmers for irrigation.  Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) will be responsible for the implementation of this scheme. Using clean energy for irrigation will be beneficial for nature and farmers will be able to save some amount that they spend on paying the electricity bill and diesel, etc. To avail the benefits of this scheme the applicant should be a farmer by profession and must own farming land.
