  • The Karnataka Minority Development Association launched the Karnataka Ganga Kalyana Scheme. Under this scheme, the state government will provide proper irrigation facilities to the farmers.
  • This scheme is only for farmers who belong to minorities and are small or marginal.
  • Under this scheme, the state government will provide proper irrigation channels from perennial sources of water through pipelines.
  • If a perennial source of water is not available then borewells and open wells will be constructed.
  • To avail of the benefits of this scheme, the age of the applicant should be between 18 to 55 years.
  • The annual income of beneficiaries living in rural areas should be less than Rs 96000 per annum Rs 1.03 lakh in urban areas.

Borewell Construction

  • The state government has fixed the installation per unit cost.
  • The unit cost of 4 lacs is fixed for up to 8 acres of land and Rs 6 lacs for 15 acres of land.
  • The entire cost of the unit under the scheme will be treated as a subsidy.
  • The state government will provide proper irrigation from perennial sources of water through pipelines. If a perennial source of water is not available then borewells and open wells will be constructed.

Objective Of Karnataka Ganga Kalyana Scheme

The objectives of the Karnataka Ganga Kalyana Scheme are:

  • To provide irrigation facilities to the farmers of Karnataka.
  • Borewells or digging open Wells followed by the installation of pump sets and accessories will be provided to the farmers by the state government.
  • To encourage and increase farm productivity.

Benefits Of Karnataka Ganga Kalyana Scheme

  • The Karnataka Ganga Kalyana Scheme is initiated by the Karnataka Minority Development Association.
  • Under this scheme, borewells or open wells will be provided to the farmer for irrigation of farming land.
  • The Karnataka government has allocated Rs 1.50 lakh and Rs 3 lakh for individual borewell projects.
  • A subsidy of Rs 3.5 lakh will be provided to the districts of Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Tumkur.
  • Apart from the subsidy Rs, 2 lakh will be given to other districts.
  • The unit cost of 4 lakhs is fixed for up to 8 acres of land and Rs 6 lakhs for 15 acres of land.
  • Only those farmers who belong to minority communities and are small or marginal farmers are eligible for this scheme.
  • If perennial water sources are not available, the corporation will provide loans to individuals for the construction of borewells at water points.
  • The corporation is going to bear a total expenditure of Rs 1.5 lakh on the construction of borewells to promote agricultural activities.
