The Odisha government has launched Harishchandra Sahayata Yojana. Through this scheme financial assistance of Rs 2000 will be provided in rural areas and Rs 3000 in urban areas will be provided to the poor and destitute for the cremation of the patient. Under the scheme, a budget of Rs 14 crore has been allocated from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Out of this 14 crore, Rs 10 crore will come directly from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, and the remaining 4 crore through collectors. Initially, the scheme was launched in 16 districts. In the last 2 years, the Government of Odisha has provided financial assistance of about 32 crores to 1.68 lakh poor and destitute families.

The Odisha government has also started the Mahaprayan vehicle service to carry the dead bodies. Under this scheme, 39 vehicles will be provided to 29 districts and 3 vehicles to 6 medical colleges to carry dead bodies. The Government of Odisha has launched an online application software to apply under the scheme.
