The Shuchi Scheme, an initiative of the Karnataka government in India, will again give sanitary pads to schoolgirls. The initiative, which aims to educate people about menstrual hygiene and provide girls with sanitary items, has been on hold for three years. Dinesh Gundu Rao, the minister for health and family welfare, addressed the audience in Mangaluru on September 11 after launching the Shuchi Nanna Maithri project, which includes a trial program for free distribution of menstruation cups to pre-university students in government and government-aided colleges. The experimental scheme will operate in the Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar districts.

In 2013-14, female students began receiving sanitary napkins. For the past three years, the previous BJP administration has failed to give sanitary pads to female students. According to Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, the government would once again provide sanitary pads to schoolgirls under the Shuchi Scheme. The administration has announced tenders for sanitary pad distribution, which will begin next month. Sapthami Gowda, a well-known national swimmer from Kantara, revealed that she had several obstacles throughout her periods as well. Sapthami Gowda is an advocate for the Shuchi-Nanna Maithri menstruation cup initiative. Girls should not lag due to their periods because they succeed in all areas.
Only 60 children utilized the cups in the first month, indicating a lower initial acceptance rate. Mothers occasionally objected to their children’s usage of menstruation cups. Additionally, the moms got counseling from health department therapists. Following the pilot experiment, 272 of the 300 students consented to and began using menstruation cups.
29th Feb Update:- The Karnataka government has renewed its plan to give free sanitary pads to 19 lakh females in schools and institutions.
On Wednesday, the Karnataka government resurrected the menstrual hygiene campaign Shuchi, which had been on hold for four years. This programme is critical for female students’ health and hygiene. Approximately 19 lakh young ladies in schools and colleges received sanitary napkins as part of the initiative. The Karnataka Health Department will provide free sanitary napkins to over 19 lakh girls (aged 10 to 18) at government and supported schools and institutions across the state as part of the relaunched scheme.
The heads of the schools will provide sanitary pads to the girls, which the health department will personally deliver to the facilities. Each package would include a box of 10 sanitary napkins. Female students will receive the necessary amount of napkins for the year. For 47 crores, the government is providing free sanitary napkins to 19 lakh school and college females from extremely low-income households.

Karnataka Shuchi Scheme Benefits
- The Shuchi-Nanna Maithri project will provide around 15,000 menstrual cups to PU students in government and aided schools in the Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar districts.
