PAN card is issued by the Income Tax Department with the help of authorized district-level PAN agencies like UTI ITSL (UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited), and Protean eGov Technologies Limited (formerly National Securities Depository Limited-NSDL).

Information Available On PAN Card

PAN card contains information like the cardholder’s name, father’s name, date of birth, 10-character PAN number, photograph, and signature.

  • A 10-digit alphanumeric number is generated, each character in the PAN number representing a unique piece of decoded information.
  • The first three characters are alpha-numeric and consist of three alphabetic characters.
  • The fourth letter indicates the kind of taxpayer the company or person is A – Association of Individuals B – Group of Persons C – Company F – Businesses G – Government H – Hindu Undivided Family L – Local Authority J – Synthetic Judicial Entity P – Individual T – Association of Trust Beneficiaries.
  • The fifth letter is the first letter of the person’s last name.
  • The remaining characters do not have any meaning they are selected randomly.

Deadline To Link PAN Card With Aadhar Card

The government of India has extended the last date for the link to the PAN and Aadhaar to 31 March 2023. However, a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed on individuals who do not link their Aadhaar and PAN by March 31, 2023.

  • Any Corporation, LLP, AOP/BOI, etc.
  • Charity, trust, or organization
  • All foreign partners in an Indian subsidiary foreign investment enterprise.

  1. Identity Proof.
  2. Address Proof.
  • For Hindu Undivided Family 
    1. An affidavit issued by the Karta of the HUF.
    2. Identity proof
    3. Residence Proof.
    4. Age Proof.
  • For companies registered in India
    1. A copy of the Registration Certificate issued by the Registrar of Companies.
  • For Firms and Limited Liability Partnerships registered 
    1. A copy of the Registration Certificate issued by the Registrar of Companies.
    2. A copy of the partnership deed.
  • For Trusts formed or registered in India
    1. A copy of the Registration Certificate Number issued by a Charity Commissioner.
  • For Association of Persons
    1. Copy of agreement or registration number certificate issued by Registrar of Co-operative Societies or Charity Commissioner.
    2. Any document issued by the Central or State Government which serves as address and identity proof.
  • Applicants who are not citizens of India
    1. Identity proof such as a copy of PIO issued by the Government of India, copy of OCI issued by the Government of India, passport copy, etc.
    2. Residence Proof such as Bank details of the country of residence, NRE bank details, copy of Visa issued by the Indian company, Registration Certificate issued by the FRO, etc.

How to apply for a pan card offline?

  • First of all, you have to visit the official website of TIN-Protean eGov Technologies Limited (formerly NSDL).
  • On the home page, you have to click on download, and from the drop-down list click on PAN.
  • You have to download the pan card application form 49A or you can download it from the given link.
  • Now download the form and take a printout.
  • Now fill in all the details asked in the application form and attached it with the documents.
  • You have to pay a registration fee of Rs.115.90 through demand draft in favor of ‘Protean eGov Technologies Limited – PAN’ payable at Mumbai.
  • Enclose the application form and your documents in an envelope and mention ‘Application for PAN-N-Acknowledgment Number’ on the envelope and send it to the address.

  • When the application is received by the concerned authority, you will receive an application number which you can use to track the status of your PAN card application.

How to apply for PAN card Online?

  • First of all, you have to visit the official website of the PAN Service Portal.
  • Select your application type, Form 49A for Indian residents or 49AA for foreigners.
  • Now fill in all the details asked in the application form such as your name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number.
  • Click on agree to the terms and conditions and click on submit.
  • Now you will receive an acknowledgment number.
  • Enter the acknowledgment number on the next page
  • Now a new page will open, enter the asked details.
  • Upload the relevant documents and make the payment to apply for the PAN.
  • Now you have successfully applied for the PAN Card.

How To Track The Application Status Of The PAN Card?

  • You have to enter the Application or PAN number, DOB, and Captcha code and click on submit.
  • Now the PAN Card application status will be on your screen.

How To Download PAN Card?

There are various government sites from where you can download the PAN Card. Below we are going to explain step by step how to download it from all sources.

  • Through NSDL Portal
    • First of all, you have to visit the official website of NSDL.
    • Now on the homepage, you have to click on the download e-pan.
  • Now select Acknowledgment, enter the Acknowledgement number, DOB, and Captcha code, and click on Submit.
  • An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number and email id, enter it.
  • Now PDF File will open on your screen, download it.
  • The E-pan pdf will be password protected and the password will be your date of birth.
  • Now you have successfully downloaded the PAN Card.
  • Through UTIITSL Portal
    • First of all, you have to visit the official website of the UTIITSL Portal.
    • Now on the homepage, you have to click on the download e-pan.
  • Enter your PAN no, GSTIN No, and Captcha code and click on submit.
  • Now you will receive a link on your phone or email. You can download an e-PAN card using OTP.
  • Through Mobile App
    1. First of all, you have to download the Pan Card Download App through the Appstore or play store.
    2. Choose NSDL or UTIITSL Pan Card.
    3. Select Download e-PAN Card. After this, select Go to Site to go to the website of NSDL or UTIITSL.
    4. Enter your 15-digit verification number and click on submit.
    5. You will get an OTP, enter it and now you can download e-Pan.
  • Through Aadhar Number
    1. First of all, you have to visit the official website of the EFiling Income Tax Department.
    2. On the homepage, you have to click on instant e-pan.
    3. Click on get new e-pan.
  • Enter your 12-digit aadhar card number, click on terms, and then click on continue.
  • Now select generate OTP.
  •  Now you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number, enter it and you will receive an email and SMS confirmation number.

How To Apply For A New PAN Card Or/And Changes Or Correction In PAN Data?

  • First of all, you have to visit the official website of the NSDL e-gov portal.
  • On the homepage, click on services, then from the drop-down list click on PAN.
  • You have to click on Apply option on the Change/Correction in PAN Data.
  • Now fill in the details asked in the form such as:
    1. Select the Application type as Change or correction in the existing pan card.
    2. Select category.
    3. Name, DOB, Mobile Number.
    4. PAN number.
    5. Agree on terms and conditions
    6. Enter captcha code
  • After filling in all the details click on submit.
  • Now to complete the process you have to pay a nominal application fee.
