CAA Portal Objectives
To apply for Indian citizenship, those who have experienced persecution as a result of their religious convictions in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Bangladesh may visit the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) website at indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in. Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Hindus are the six minority groups that are the targets of persecution.
CAA Portal for Indian Citizenship Features
- To prove an applicant’s nationality, “any document” demonstrating that one of their parents, grandparents, or even great-grandparents was born in one of these countries is acceptable, according to the rules that lay the groundwork for the CAA’s implementation. Moreover, it states that a certificate from a member of the elected local body would be sufficient in lieu of a visa.
- The laws have basically removed the need for a passport from Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Afghanistan and a residency permit issued by India. Rather, a certificate of birth or educational institution, “any identity document of any kind,” “any license or certificate,” “land or tenancy records,” or “any other document” provided by these countries attesting to the applicant’s nationality would suffice as proof of their citizenship.
- Additionally permissible are records attesting to the fact that “one or both of the applicant’s parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents is or was a citizen of one of the three countries.” The admissibility of these records will not end with their expiration date.
Eligibility Criteria
- Hindu, Christians, Sikhs, Jainites, Buddhists, and Parsis persecuted minorities are welcome to apply through the CAA site.
- Communities who arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014, from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, may apply through the CAA portal.
Documents Required
- Passport size Photograph
- Mobile number
- copy of passport issued by Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh governments
- Birth certificate
- Any type of identity document, land records, or tenancy records documents proving that the applicant’s parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents were citizens of one of the three nations.
Note:- These documents will be accepted even after their validity term has passed, according to the requirements.
- Applicants must additionally provide documentation proving they entered India prior to December 31, 2014, in order to be eligible. An Indian driving license, Aadhaar number, ration card, marriage certificate, or other government-issued document can serve as proof of identity, as can an immigration stamp and visa, a registration certificate from the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), a slip from an Indian census enumerator, or any combination of these.
- Candidates also need to provide an eligibility certificate attesting to their continuous membership in the “Hindu/Sikh/ Buddhist/Jain/Parsi/Christian community” from a respectable local community institution, per the rules.
